Adventure travel specialist Kumuka ceases trading
The adventure travel specialist Kumuka, established in 1983, has officially ceased trading and is said to be appointing administrators in the next few days.
The small Surrey-based travel company which was licensed to carry 500 passengers this year, packed up business on Monday.
The Australian branch of Kumuka issued the folowing statement: ”Passengers travelling after this will need to contact the Travel Compensation Fund and their agent will need to make alternative travel arrangements.”
In the wake of Kumuka’s news, several competing travel companies have set up alternative deals and discounts for travellers looking to take equivalent trips with them.
Interpid Travel is offering a 20% discount on tours before September 18; Tucan Travel are offering a loyalty discount of up to 25% off group tours.
“It is sad to see the collapse of a company that we have long respected as a collaborator in building the adventure travel sector. We understand that this is a distressing time for Kumuka staff and our thoughts are with them.” said Interpid Travel’s Geoff Manchester.

Great the travellers are protected but no cover for the operators who they acted as an agent for and failed to pay
