Habitat HQ retains Victorian crown
Habitat HQ was named Victoria’s best backpacker accommodation for the second year running, at the Victorian Tourism Awards last week.
The Melbourne hostel collected the award, at last Tuesday’s Crown Casino gala dinner, in front of over 1,000 members of the industry.
Named as finalists in the backpacker accommodation category were The Island Accommodation (Phillip Island) and Port Campbell Hostel.
On repeating their success in the hostel category, Habitat HQ director Peter Beaconsfield said: “Habitat HQ’s success is due to our wonderful and dedicated team. Each member prides themself on assisting every guest to enjoy a positive and memorable travel experience.”
Also amongst the 30 winners on the night was Melbourne Museum for best major tourist attraction, the Rhyll Trout & Bush Tucker Farm (Phillip Island) for best tourist attraction, BIG4 Beacon Resort for best caravan park and 12 Apostles Helicopters for best tour operator.
Phillip Island fared particularly well as a destination, picking up two awards and being linked to five finalists.
Kim Storey, the island’s executive officer, said: “It is such an honour for our region to be represented by such a high standard of tourism businesses, reflecting the island’s reputation as one of the state’s premier holiday and tourism destinations.”
