Two TQ execs jump ship
Two of Tourism Queensland’s executives have resigned following the appointment of the state’s new Tourism Minister, Jann Stuckey.
Executives Geoff Dixon and Don Morris quit their Tourism board positions with government sources suggesting clashes between the Minister and her staff, reports The Australian.
Mr Morris, a one-time chairman of the former Australian Tourism Commission, served as Tourism Queensland chairman for five years, overseeing the successful “Best Job in the World” campaign.
“I have two other major committments; I have been involved with Hamilton Island, and I have just joined the board of Ardent Leisure, the owner of Dreamworld,” Mr Morris said.
Mr Dixon said he wanted to move on after three years as a Tourism Queensland board member, “but there was no issue at all . . . I have so many commitments”.
“I told the board and minister almost immediately at the government change that . . . I would step down at a time which was suitable for both of us and that was well known,” he said.

Tony: As if!!
I may be pleased with the direction the Newman Gov has taken on boosting our tourism and related industries but I don`t expect them to over-ride their departments time-honoured tradition of choosing academics over footsoldiers for important posts.
I`m sure there`ll be some deserving pen-pusher out there who has a Doctorate in Tourism Facilitation who has holidayed in several Hilton`s around the world who will be more suitable.
I hear Anna Bligh`s free….
